On the night Jesus was born, an angel appeared to some shepherds saying, Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all people. [Luke 2:10]
Jesus was the good news proclaimed, the long-awaited Savior, the “reason for the season.” As I receive cards these days from family, friends, and colleagues, the beautiful artwork, messages, notes, and photos fill me with joy. Each card represents a relationship with someone who has also heard the angel’s message. It is through each of us that Jesus—the good news—spreads joy to all people, regardless of who they are, where they come from, or their religious traditions. Christ’s joy is for ALL. Like the shepherds on that first Christmas night, we are charged with opening our lives to Christ with great joy and sharing true joy with all we meet. Merry Christmas to all of our Backlit readers around the world! May you know the joy and peace of Christ this season and into the New Year!
