Today’s feast on the liturgical calendar is the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In other words, it’s the day we remember that Mary came into the world as we all do, in very human fashion. We don’t know much about her childhood until the moment the angel appeared and turned her life upside-down. Mary is honored and revered for being the Mother of God, for birthing Hope into the world. On this feast, I offer a favorite quote from the German mystic and theologian Meister Eckhart (c.1260-1328) to reflect on throughout the day.

We are all meant to be mothers of God, for God is always needing to be born.
