Today is the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation. This day was established last year by Pope Francis. He referred to it as  ” . . . a fitting opportunity to reaffirm our personal vocation to be stewards of creation.” Joe Paprocki, a friend and colleague from my years at Loyola Press in Chicago, has written a great blog post with links to helpful individual and group resources. Be sure to check it out.

Our foundress, St. Angela Merici, had a reverence for creation as well as for the Creator. As a Third Order Franciscan she certainly imbibed the spirituality of St. Francis, so centered on creation. Consider taking these words of hers to heart and use them as a mantra of mindfulness today.

May your holy Name be blessed above the sands of the seas, above the drops of the waters, above the multitudes of the stars.  ~St. Angela Merici
