Today three crew members will depart the International Space Station and return to planet earth. I heard Scott Kelly, one who has been there for 340 days, speak of the unique view of earth they’ve had from up there. Surely it will have changed their perspective on much of reality.
Lent invites us to new perspectives, also. The efforts we make to pray, fast and share with others demand long weeks of arduous commitment. But Jesus assures us that openness to a change of heart brings deeper outlook on all of life. The Scriptures tell us that the Lord spoke to Moses “as one speaks to a friend,” and when Moses came down from the mountain, his face was radiant.
How approachable are we to our God? How ready are we for a conversion of the way we see things?
