I was delighted with news I read last week that the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation has approved a $1 million grant in support of the efforts of Giving Voice in partnership with Catholic Theological Union (CTU) to prepare young Roman Catholic women religious to assume leadership positions in their religious communities, ministries, and the Catholic Church.
Giving Voice is a peer-led network of younger sisters to give voice to their hopes, dreams, and challenges in religious life. Led by a Core Team, one of whom I am proud to say is our own Ursuline Sr. Jeannie Humphries, this organization is made up of vibrant young religious women filled with energy for mission and commitment to the Gospel and the charisms of their communities, and eager to assume responsibility for shaping religious life for the future. Giving Voice organizes retreats and other activities for sisters in their 20’s, 30’s and 40’s, as well as multi-generational gatherings of religious women.
The announcement by Giving Voice states: “The grant will also assist in advancing strategic planning, enhancing leadership development within the Giving Voice network, hiring administrative staff to supplement the Giving Voice volunteer leadership team, and improving Giving Voice’s website and communications tools.” Congratulations, Giving Voice!
