When I visit our Ursuline high schools and share with the students, someone always asks the question, “What do Sisters do in their free time?” The answer to that question is as varied as each individual Sister. We read, watch TV, listen to music, go to a movie, meet a friend for coffee, do yard work, work out, ride bikes—you name it! Last weekend, a group of 30 Ursulines from Illinois, Missouri, and Texas gathered in St. Louis and spent a full day together talking about Ursuline life and the gift of religious vocations in the Church. It was a time of reflection and sharing on a deep level, and looking to the future full of hope. But it’s impossible to get 2 or more Ursulines together without experiencing the joy that we share! During breaks, over lunch, before and after the meeting, you could hear the laughter and see the smiles that come from our joy at being together and seeing Sisters we don’t see very often. That’s a part of the gift of consecrated life and a special piece of our Ursuline charism.
