The month of January is a time when Ursuline Sisters, students, co-workers, alums, associates, and anyone around the globe touched by the Ursuline spirit and charism reflect on St. Angela in a particular way. Why? Because we celebrate her feast day on January 27th. Over the next couple of weeks I invite you to visit here, get to know more about St. Angela, and see what everyone is talking about!
One of the most basic “faces” of Angela Merici is that she was a woman head-over-heels in love with Jesus. She had names for Jesus such as “my only life and hope,” “our one and only Treasure,” and “my Lover, or rather ours, the Lover of us all.” And this love went both ways. Jesus and Angela seemed to have this crazy-love for each other. The foundation of the Company of St. Ursula (our original name) in 1535 is a direct result of the love and trust they had in each other. This deep, personal love relationship with Jesus is an essential aspect of our Ursuline identity. It forms the basis of all of our Ursuline service and ministry.
I am continually among them with my Lover, or rather ours, the Lover of us all. ~St. Angela Merici
