I just returned from several days in Louisville, Kentucky where I had the opportunity to participate in the Administrators’ Dialogue sponsored by Ursuline Educational Services. The 60+ participants came from around the country. They are Ursuline Sisters and lay women and men who minister as presidents, principals, directors of mission effectivenenss, campus ministers, and those who work in advancement in schools sponsored by or affiliated with the Ursuline Sisters. This two-day biannual gathering is a chance to meet colleagues in Ursuline education, share ideas and experiences, deepen their knowledge and understanding of St. Angela, as well as have fun together. The theme for this year’s Dialogue was Sustaining the Charism, and I was invited to share with the group on the topic: St. Angela’s Charism and It’s Meaning for Us Today.
It never ceases to amaze me how St. Angela’s charism speaks to people of every time and place. Her spirit and message have moved people for 478 years to be on fire with love for God while being engaged in the world. Angela said it this way, “Keep to the ancient way and custom of the Church, established and confirmed by so many Saints under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. And live a new life.” Angela’s charism is alive not only in the Ursuline Sisters, but also in those who walk with us in Ursuline ministries, in students and alums of our Ursuline schools, in associates, volunteers, and all those we serve. I feel excited to be walking together into the future, sustaining Angela’s charism, “ready for big surprises!”
