As most of our readers know, Sr. Jean and I are Vocation Directors for the Roman Union Ursulines in the United States.  Sr. Jean lives in our Chicago community, and I live in one of our St. Louis communities.  Last week, we were together to give our vocation workshop to the sophomores at our St. Louis Ursuline Academy, and to spend some days planning vocation activities for next year.

Cappucino in RomeWe’ve worked together for two years.  As we reviewed our vocation ministry—high school events, university Busy Student Retreats, Come and See weekends, the blog, brochures and videos we’ve prepared, sharings with our sisters, etc.—I realized how blessed I am and how much I really enjoy the teamwork we share. We touch base regularly by phone and email, meet around the country where we are involved in activities, pray and dream and explore together how best to bring the story of St. Angela Merici and the Ursulines to others.  When young people respond with interest and questions about how to discover their own vocation, we try to assist the work of the Holy Spirit in them.

I have loved every Ursuline ministry I ever did, and this present one is no different.  Collaboration and teamwork in a spirit of prayer, hard work and plenty of laughter is something I treasure.  It’s our little contribution to the mission we share as Ursulines and part of the joy and blessing of religious life. Here’s to you, Jean!
