Wow, talk about having fun! These last few days, I had the joy of being with more than 15,000 young adult Christians gathered at the St. Louis convention center for Urbana 12, a student missions conference sponsored by InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. As a volunteer in the Catholic “Assisi Lounge,” I helped welcome participants who came to chat, pray, or just rest and have some time for journaling and reflection.
Members of NET Ministries, a Catholic Evangelization Team based in St. Paul MN, were there to oversee the Catholic lounge and did a great job. As “young people ministering to young people,” they exude enthusiasm for living the Gospel today and inviting others to commit to Christ. My conversations with them and others revealed strong desires to listen to the Spirit and be set on fire in mission to others.
It was great fun to be with these young adults, and the experience definitely gives me hope for our Church and world of the future. I am in awe at the generosity of so many who give months or years in mission to God’s people. May they continue to use their gifts by sharing with others!
